Pr.  D&S judge inspects Kupwara District Jail Inspects prison premises, contacts prisoners

KUPWARA, MAY 17: In line with the guidelines of NALSA and J&K Legal Services Authority, Shazia Tabasum, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority/ Pr. District and Sessions Judge Kupwara today inspected Kupwara District Jail.

The purpose of the inspection was to assess the health and hygiene of inmates, the condition of barracks, sanitary facilities and other issues necessary for the well-being of inmates.

The Chairman was accompanied by Attorney General Kupwara, Chief Administrative Officer, Assistant LADC Kupwara and other officials of DLSA Kupwara.
During the visit, the Chairman inspected the premises of the prison in order to familiarize himself with the condition there and the condition of the prisoners staying there. The quality of food and water, medical facilities, sanitary facilities and spacing within the barracks were also inspected.

The chairman also contacted prisoners housed in various barracks and inquired about their health condition and the quality of food and water provided to them. She also checked the equipment available in the videoconferencing room, medical clinic, legal aid clinic and kitchen area of ​​the prison.

She also inquired about the condition of prisoners facing trial outside the district and urged lawyers visiting prisons and PLV to record prisoners’ grievances to enable them to seek early redress and timely action.
