Orange County mother charged with molestation. A child was found with 16 broken bones

A Southern California mother has been charged after she allegedly repeatedly beat her 5-week-old baby when he wouldn’t stop crying, leaving the baby with 16 broken bones, including a skull fracture, prosecutors say.

Mirian Jimenez-Olivera, 34, of Santa Ana, was charged with 11 counts of child abuse in the attack that also left the infant with a broken knee, elbow, ribs and arm.

The city of Santa Ana is located in Orange County.

The child’s 35-year-old father also was charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the case for allegedly lying to police about the child’s injuries, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced in a news release Thursday.

Prosecutors: The mother beat the child from the age of 2 weeks

Doctors discovered the child’s injuries when he was brought to Children’s Hospital on Monday because he couldn’t move his left arm.

According to the release, the mother is accused of repeatedly abusing the baby since she was two weeks old, hitting the newborn’s ribs, shoulder and arms while he was crying and “brutally pulling his leg while she was changing him.”

“A mother’s arms should be the safest place for a newborn, fiercely protecting it from the world, but… the mother’s arms were a weapon of violence that helped systematically break his bones into tiny pieces because he wouldn’t stop doing what every newborn cries,” he wrote in statement from Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “No child should come into this world and be subjected to unimaginable pain and then left to suffer in silence, not knowing the next time his mother will explode in anger and break another rib or break another bone.”

Both parents pleaded not guilty and will remain jailed on a $1 million bond

Prosecutors said both parents appeared in court this week and pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The mother faces a maximum of 42 years in prison if found guilty on all charges.
