HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – The Horry County Coroner’s Office said a 13-year-old died last weekend from life-threatening injuries following an assault.

Isaiah Gaymes died around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the Medical University of South Carolina, according to the coroner’s office, which said Horry County police and the South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement are investigating the murder.

A Horry County Police report shows two people have been charged following an assault that occurred on May 8 in the Longs area.

Ivy Contrell Jenerette, 40, was charged with abuse resulting in serious bodily injury to a child. Samantha Ann Gaymes, 34, was charged with unlawful endangerment of a child. They are both staying in the Remand Center. J. Reuben Long held without bond.

According to the arrest warrant, Jenerette is accused of striking Isaiah Gaymes several times in the head with a blunt object. Isaiah also suffered “several other” life-threatening injuries during the attack.

An arrest warrant shows Gaymes was charged after she allegedly allowed Isaiah to be physically abused.

No other information was immediately available.
