Two names added to peace officers memorial

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The names of two fallen Colorado law enforcement officers will be placed at the Peace Officer Monument at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. Event at 10 a.m. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office told me they expected over 400 people to attend. One officer worked for Fountain Police. The second was a parole officer in Colorado.

The Becerra family

Fountain Police Officer Julian Becerra died from his injuries nine days after falling from an overpass in Colorado Springs. Court documents say the fall occurred at the end of a police pursuit that began in Pueblo. His family describes him as a fantastic dad and husband.

The Sandoval family

Parole officer Christine Guerin Sandoval was struck and killed by a car while serving an arrest warrant in Colorado Springs. Sandoval’s family describes her as a wonderful mother with a heart of gold.

Bill Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, says it’s important for people to stop and thank an officer for his or her service. “Part of preserving and protecting our democracy tragically depends on the deaths of men and women in uniform at the tragic cost of protecting our democracy each year, typically in the hundreds of hundreds of men and women who die for us.”
