Four players suspended after Brewers vs. brawl Rays bench-cleaning game

The Milwaukee Brewers were handed multiple suspensions following altercations and ejections during Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Relief pitcher Abner Uribe was suspended six games for his role in and incitement of a bench-clearing brawl in the eighth inning of the Brewers’ 8-2 victory over the Rays. Uribe, who also received an undisclosed fine, became angry with Rays outfielder Jose Siri after recording an out at first base, and the verbal altercation eventually led to both players throwing punches.

Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, who was ejected in the sixth inning for what officials said was a deliberate attempt to hit Siri after he had hit Peralta earlier, was given five games.

Both Uribe and Peralta are appealing the suspension.

Manager Pat Murphy also was suspended for two games for what MLB said was “a result of Peralta’s actions and his inappropriate behavior toward umpires.”

Siri was suspended for three matches.

Brewers assistant manager Rickie Weeks Jr. served as acting manager during Wednesday’s game against the Rays and will do so again on Friday when Milwaukee faces former manager Craig Counsell as Cubs captain for the first time.
