SC Collegium recommends new term for Judge Rajesh Sekhri

NEW DELHI, May 18: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended a fresh term of one year to Justice Rajesh Sekhri as additional judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

On April 23, the Collegium of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court had recommended the appointment of Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an additional judge for the new term in the absence of a vacancy in the post of permanent judge against whom he could be considered.
Regarding the record of proceedings, the Apex Court Collegium consulted members of its bench familiar with the cases of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and Ladakh.
The two-judge commission assessed the quality of Judge Sekhri’s rulings as well-reasoned, analyzing the facts of the cases and supported by relevant case law.
After reviewing the material collected to assess the validity and usefulness of the proposed nomination, the College of the Supreme Court proceeded to recommend him for a new term of office with effect from July 29 this year.
It is worth mentioning here that Justice Sekhri was appointed as Additional Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court vide notification No. K-13021/01/2021-US-II dated July 27, 2022 and took oath on 29 July 2022
Born in Jammu, Sekhri passed his matriculation from SD Sabha Higher Secondary School and completed his graduation from Government Gandhi Memorial Science College and LLB from the University of Jammu in 1989. He passed the KCS Judicial examination and joined as Munsiff in 1995. He was promoted to the post of Associate Justice in 1998 and as a district and adjudicating judge in 2008
In 2014, it was awarded a selection grade with effect from June 2013, and in 2017 it was placed on the super time scale. He served as CJM of Rajouri and Kargil, Special Judge of TADA/POTA Court, Srinagar, Additional District Judge of Anantnaga, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Jammu and Chief District Judge of Reasi, Ramban and Baramulla. He also remained the special anti-corruption judge of the CBI.
