A former city prosecutor turned religious school teacher has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl, The Post has learned.

Daniel Haines, 39, a former assistant district attorney in the Bronx and Brooklyn who taught at Mount Carmel-Holy Rosary in East Harlem, is also accused of recording cellphone videos of their sexual encounters and exchanging “multiple photos and videos of sexual encounters.” nature” via email, according to a complaint filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

He was arrested on May 17.

The partially changed address listed in the complaint shows the abuse occurred at Mount Carmel, where Haines was a teacher at the time.

The complaint alleges that there was one act of desk rape.

Mount Carmel principal Trista Rivera sent an email to parents saying they could call the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office at 212-335-4300 if their children “had any contact” with Haines.

“The school has cooperated fully and will continue to investigate this allegation,” Joseph Zwilling, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York, told The Post.

Rivera and Zwilling did not explain why Haines left Mount Carmel or confirm that the 13-year-old victim was a student at the school, which caused confusion and concern among parents.

A spokesman said Haines worked in the Bronx District Attorney’s Office from 2009 to 2019.

In the racket office, he handled major gang and drug cases.

He then worked for a short time in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. Spokesman Oren Yaniv would not say why he left. His last city salary was $105,000.

Haines then took a job at Mt.Carmel, where the average teacher salary is $54,768.

Remains through the end of the 2022-23 school year.

One parent from Mt. Carmel told The Post that she complained about Haines, her child’s sixth- and seventh-grade English teacher.

“I thought he was terrible, but the principal either ignored me or told me he cared about the kids,” she said. “Then he left school, but he always showed up. It’s just weird.”

In September 2023, Haines joined the Heschel School, a Jewish day academy on the Upper West Side, where he taught middle grades and coached basketball and participated in mock trials.

In a recent letter to parents, school principal Ariela Dubler and board president Ben Archibald wrote: “All of the alleged inappropriate behavior occurred prior to Daniel’s arrival at Heschel. We are not aware of any allegations of criminal or inappropriate conduct in the Heschel community.”

The letter says Haines was hired after a reference and criminal background check. When the school learned of his arrest, “we placed him on leave and blocked his access to our systems and buildings.”

Records show Haines pleaded not guilty and was released on $350,000 bail.
