Barbra Streisand pays tribute to her ‘Mirror Has Two Faces’ co-star Lauren Bacall.

After the Tuesday death of Lauren Bacall, Barbra Streisand remembered her on-screen partner and friend. The two entertainment icons starred together in the 1996 romantic comedy The Mirror Has Two Faces, for which Bacall earned her only Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

“What a terrible loss for all of us,” Streisand said in a statement. “First Robin (Williams), who was a genius, and now Lauren. I had the honor of knowing her and playing with her. And above all, to have her as a wise and loving friend.

Comedian and Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams died on Monday (August 11) in an apparent suicide. Bacall died today (August 12) from a stroke. She was 89 years old.

Bacall played the domineering mother of English literature professor Barbra Streisand, who struggled to find love with the emotionless Jeff Bridges in “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” The two influential actresses worked perfectly together in the winning comedy, with Bacall winning on the pure entertainment value of her caustic and narcissistic performance.

“She was original,” Streisand said of Bacall. “Despite all the great movies we can watch over and over again, we will miss her.”
