Suspects arrested in connection with fatal shooting were wearing the same clothes seen in surveillance video: police

William Darden (left) and Dalton Thompson appeared in court on murder and robbery charges.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Police say three men accused of a fatal shooting on Union Avenue wearing the same clothes as in surveillance video were arrested days later.

Dalton Ray Thompson, 25, William Wendell Darden, 23, and Joey Elias, 22, have pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and robbery. They have a preliminary hearing scheduled next week.

According to police, the shooting occurred on May 20 around 11:30 p.m. at 100 Union Avenue. Officers responding to a ShotSpotter activation found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents filed by investigators show that police reviewed surveillance footage that captured the suspects before and after the shooting. Two 9mm shell casings were found.

On May 28, police saw three suspects walking in the 100 block of Eye Street.

“All three suspects were wearing the same identifiable clothing as seen on surveillance footage,” the officer wrote in the documents.

They were taken into custody. Documents show Thompson and Elias were arrested without incident and Darden fled home after fleeing.
