A Glasgow man has been charged with dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer

GLASGOW, Ky. – A Glasgow man faces multiple charges over alleged reckless driving on Sunday.

According to the uniform citation, an off-duty Kentucky State Police trooper stated he saw a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in the wrong direction on Tompkinsville Road at approximately 7:50 p.m.

The uniform citation also states that the officer entered a marked police car and attempted to stop the vehicle, which allegedly reached a speed of 160 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.

Authorities say when the driver, identified as 35-year-old Brandon Netherton of Glasgow, pulled up to the home, he was instructed to remain in the vehicle because the officer was unarmed.

The trooper stated he approached the vehicle with handcuffs and placed one on Netherton, explaining that Netherton was under arrest.

According to the uniform’s findings, the driver refused to exit the vehicle after repeated verbal commands, and the officer testified that he once struck Netherton with a closed fist. The soldier stated that he contacted the control room and told them that “the man was behaving aggressively and did not follow orders.”

According to police testimony, when the driver got out of the car, the officer retrieved his patrol rifle and then put it back into the cruiser when he saw the driver was unarmed.

Authorities say the driver continued to refuse commands by approaching the officer, which caused the officer to push the man away before the driver threatened him with physical harm.

When the driver tried to hit the officer, the officer testified that he avoided being hit and hit the driver twice.

The Barren County Sheriff’s Office arrested Netherton before deputies arrived on scene.

Netherton was transported to TJ Samson Community Hospital and underwent a medical examination before being booked into the Barren County Detention Center.

He faces charges of speeding 26 miles per hour or more over the speed limit, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), resisting arrest, third-degree assault on a police officer or probation officer (probation), first-degree lewdness. threats to a police officer, threats and having an open container of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle.
