NEW DELHI: A day after the Delhi Chief Minister surrendered to the Tihar Jail authorities, Minister Atishi launched a fresh attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, alleging that the national president of the Aam Aadmi Party was locked in a Tihar Jail cell without a refrigerator in the scorching heat of the national capital.

“Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the BJP in a false case. Yesterday, Arvind Kejriwal surrendered and went to Tihar Jail. However, the BJP-ruled central government has not seen peace. The BJP is leaving no stone unturned to harass Arvind Kejriwal. he was kept in a cell where even a refrigerator was not provided,” an AAP leader told ANI.

The AAP leader noted that notorious criminals were “provided refrigerators” in Tihar jail as the mercury in the city rose to over 45 degrees Celsius, “but popular Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was not provided with a refrigerator in such scorching heat.”

“I want to ask the BJP about this. I want to ask them LG Sahab (VK Saxena), how low will you stoop?…” Atishi added.

On Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal surrendered before the Tihar Jail authorities, following which the Rouse Avenue court remanded him to judicial custody till June 5.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering probe into alleged irregularities in the now canceled Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 in connection with a money laundering case registered by the ED in connection with Delhi’s excise policy. However, he directed that Kejriwal should not visit the Prime Minister’s Office or the Delhi Secretariat.
