Trains to and from London Euston suspended after a person died on the tracks

Mainline train services in and out of London Euston station have been suspended after a death on the tracks in Hertfordshire, causing travel chaos.

The National Rail Inquiries said the incident was affecting passengers traveling on Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway and Southern services. The disruptions were to last until 10:00.

Avanti West Coast operates long-distance services between Euston and Glasgow on the West Coast Main Line, with branches to locations including Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and North Wales.

British Transport Police said they received a report of a crash on the tracks near Watford Junction station in Hertfordshire at 6.04am on Wednesday.

An ambulance arrived at the scene, but the doctor pronounced the person dead.

Affected passengers can use their tickets on some alternative routes. Road transport is also provided in some areas.

Trains are now said to be running to and from London Euston, but there are still long delays and remaining cancellations.

One person wrote on social media: “It’s terrible to hear about the death at Watford Junction. All trains to Euston suspended. @AvantiWestCoast does this very well.

Another wrote: “Woke up at 05.30 this morning to enjoy the privilege of a 3 hour journey to Euston. Incident between Bushey and Watford Junction. Maybe go to work at 10am.
