Cathedral City and Palm Springs fire departments are assisting with the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene of a fire at a commercial property at 6th Street and Grapefruit Boulevard in Coachella on Thursday morning.

Calfire Riverside County said firefighters found several cardboard boxes on fire at a business in the 85400 block of Grapefruit Boulevard, and the flames spread to an adjacent commercial building, which was fully engulfed in flames.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries or information on the cause of the fire.

Still, firefighters tell KESQ News Channel 3 there were flames in the building and they expected to be there for several hours putting out the blaze.

Grapefruit Boulevard was closed from Avenue 50 to 4th Street. Firefighters expected the closure to last until at least 1:30 p.m. while they worked to bring the fire under control.

The high temperatures that day also contributed to the firefighting operation.

A KESQ News Channel 3 crew is on the scene of the fire and will provide the latest updates on-air and online.
