Driver critically injured after crashing into water near exit 15 of I-264

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — An early morning crash in Virginia Beach sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

Just before 6 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle traveling east on I-264 went off the road, went through a guardrail and landed in a body of water near exit 15, according to Virginia State Police.

The police determined that the 20-year-old woman driving the vehicle left the vehicle on her own. She was transported to Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. She was accused of dangerous driving.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department and Swift Water Rescue divers assisted in retrieving the vehicle from the water. Divers also confirmed that there was no one else in the vehicle.

The investigation into this crash is still ongoing.
