Denise Balfour Simpson of Davidson has been named vice chancellor and dean of students – Inside UNC Charlotte

Following a nationwide search, Denise Balfour Simpson has been named vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at UNC Charlotte. Her nomination expires on July 29. She joins the University from Davidson College, where she was associate dean of students in the Division of Student Life.

At Charlotte, Simpson will provide visionary, strategic and operational leadership across the Division of Student Affairs and the University to ensure students have access to the necessary resources and support to succeed academically and personally. This position oversees two departments: Student Aid and Support and Student Responsibility and Conflict Resolution, and coordinates the department’s response to major crises and other events affecting students in the university community.

Key programs and initiatives related to the position include the Jamil Niner Student Pantry, Student Emergency Fund, Student Emergency Housing Fund, Swipe Out Hunger, conflict resolution efforts, and academic integrity processes. This individual serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator and participates in the Demonstration Resource Team.
