The annual Delgana and District Horticultural Society rose show is fast approaching, and its date has been set for Saturday, June 29.

From 15:00 to 17:00 St. Primary School Patrick’s Day at Greystones will be awash with the most brilliant colors and floral scents in the county.

The show will also feature a wide range of plants, vegetables and sweet peas, as well as roses in various shades. There are classes for novices and children, and depending on the weather, plants may be available for sale.

Prizes up for grabs include the Powerscourt Gardens Award for best bloom and the Nancy O’Neill Cup, Hartwell Cup and Harrison Tankard for best exhibit in one of the 20 rose classes.

This show will also feature the Bray Sweet Pea Championship, two fruit and vegetable awards and the An Tostal Committee Cup for best exhibit in the ‘other summer flowers’ category. These may include violas, pansies, irises, lilies and delphinium.

Finally, for green-fingered types who don’t have a garden or any significant outdoor space, there are three prizes available in the “container-grown plants” category, which can include plants such as orchids, fuchsia, cacti and succulents.

Tea is served during the performance. New members and exhibitors are very welcome.

All exhibits must be on display by 11:30 a.m. on the day of the show. The staging is open from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the Friday before the performance or in the morning on the day of the performance from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Applications must be sent in advance to the Exhibition Secretary, preferably by e-mail to [email protected].
