On Saturday afternoon, firefighters extinguished two fires in Brooklyn almost simultaneously.
On June 8, just after 12:45, units responded to thick smoke coming from the roof of a two-story residential building near ul. East 78th Street and Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. More than 100 firefighters used five hoses to extinguish the main part of the fire, which quickly spread to the attic of the building - the area between the ceiling and the roof.
No injuries were reported and the fire was brought under control at 1:40 p.m
Once the fire was under control, another fire broke out less than a mile and a half away, near East 53rd Street and Avenue D in East Flatbush.
Firefighters arrived at the second scene to find heavy fire and smoke coming from a single-story commercial hardware workshop just yards from a long-established Pepsi plant in the area.
Units deployed four hoses to suppress the main part of the fire.
No injuries were reported and the fire was declared under control at 2:35 p.m
The FDNY Fire Marshal’s Office will determine the cause and origin of both fires.
