Suspects identified in officer-involved shooting in Cranston

CRANSTON, RI (WLNE) – Two suspects wanted in connection with a shoplifting and officer-involved shooting in Cranston have been identified after a multiple law enforcement arrest.

Michael Campagna, 24, of South Boston, Massachusetts, and Megan O’Brien, 24, of Lynn, Massachusetts, were arrested at the JFK T stop in Boston, according to Rhode Island State Police.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the Garden City Chopping Center in Cranston, where the suspects allegedly shoplifted and fled in a gray Kia.

Shortly after leaving the scene, the suspects were approached by a Cranston Police officer who opened the vehicle door and ordered them to exit.

Campagna then allegedly drove away, tripping the officer’s foot.

The officer then fires his service weapon.

Campagna is charged with assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer and several other charges.

O’Brien is charged with assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer, aiding and abetting the assault on a police officer and other charges.

According to police, both suspects had existing arrest warrants for shoplifting.
