Kothagudem: A government primary school teacher who sent selfie photos of himself with students planting saplings to the principal to prove his attendance at the school has been suspended from duty after the principal claimed that the teacher had quit his duties after taking the photos on Saturday.

District education officer Venkateshwara Chary issued a suspension order for teacher Phani Bhasker, who attended school at Nehru Basthi in Kothagudem town in the morning but later left the school without prior permission and returned only in the late afternoon.

Bhasker was said to have taken photos while planting saplings at the school along with students and shared the photos with the principal of the School Complex to prove his presence at the school. However, he later left without informing the director.

In Bhasker’s absence, nine students also followed suit and interrupted classes.
