The National Agricultural Marketing Association Club at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville School of Agriculture recently traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, to compete in the National Agricultural Marketing Association student competition. There, the students presented their marketing plan for the agricultural product EasyEatz, which is not yet on the market. EasyEatz is dried beef turned into flakes that make it easier for older people to eat beef. Students competed against 25 universities from across the country and Canada.

To prepare for this event, the NAMA club had to obtain competition committee approval for its product before it could begin developing a marketing plan. Once approved, they began primary and secondary research and prepared a five-page marketing plan executive summary, which was submitted in February before the competition. After submitting the summary, the NAMA club prepared a presentation for the panel of judges. After the first round of the competition, the teams received feedback from the judges on their work and presentation.

In addition to the presentations, students had the opportunity to network with other teams and professionals in the agricultural industry, as well as hear a keynote speaker discuss the world of business.

Dr. Lucie Kadjo, associate professor of agribusiness and NAMA advisor, says participating in this event provides students with many benefits, including hands-on experience in marketing, networking with students and professionals across the country and Canada, and public speaking and communication skills.

“When asked about their favorite part of the competition, the students said it was very fun to watch the other teams present,” Kadjo said.

The NAMA Club thanks SUFAC, the Doug and Jean Buhler Student Scholarship, and GROWMARK for sponsoring the trip. GROWMARK funded the trip through funding from Glenn Webb Education.
