Daisy Lowe reveals her struggles with self-confidence and says her mother makes her proud

Daisy Lowe said that even though she is a successful model, she struggles with self-confidence every day.

The daughter of fashion designer Pearl Lowe and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, 33, began modeling at the age of two, but admitted she had to deal with rejection from a young age.

In a statement for the Diet Coca-Cola “Love What You Love” campaign, she told the Standard: “For me, self-confidence comes and goes. This is an ephemeral phenomenon and I wish it were not so. If I could give myself confidence every minute, I think my life would be a lot easier. I’m sure anyone would do it.

“I still try to struggle with confidence every day. I started modeling at a very young age, so in some ways I gained confidence, but I also had to deal with rejection.”

She added: “I have worked really hard as a model over the years; I did endless rounds of auditions with my portfolio under my arm. Sometimes I got my dream job and other times I was rejected, but I quickly learned to pick myself up and keep going – it certainly shaped the woman I am today. However, I have always enjoyed being around creative people and I am very grateful for my career.”

Her secret weapon is her designer mother, Pearl, who is her “greatest confidant” and makes her proud.

She said: “I have so many amazing women in my life who inspire me every day. My mother is so kind and creates beauty wherever she goes; she is a true trailblazer…

“My mom always told me to just try to be really present. I wish I had listened to her more when she was younger, but I guess as a teenager you think you know everything.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star also credited her grandmother and best friend Portia Freeman as the amazing women in her life.

“My grandma is so strong, so funny and so tough. She has always been my inspiration in the kitchen, and Portia is pure sunshine, radiating happiness. They all make me proud to be a woman.” She added.

As part of the fashion campaign, the model really reevaluated what she loves and what makes her feel good in her skin.

“I don’t follow trends well – I’ll be the first to raise my hand. I’m much better at simply determining what fits and feels good, and I’m a sucker for anything that’s comfortable,” she said.

“I just went through my wardrobe and did a little reconnaissance. I would still wear everything there, but my sister is kind of like, “Daisy, you can’t wear it because it’s a little too short now, you’re a little too old for it!”

Although the London-born star is selling her Camden home for £1.8 million, she has no plans to leave the capital.

She added: “Absolutely not! I definitely plan to stay in London – I love it here and have always called it home.”

Daisy Lowe is part of Diet Coke’s new Love What You Love campaign, which sees five style icons take part in an intimate film that explores what inspires their unique style. The series will start on Daisy Lowe’s IG channel on March 24 at 7 p.m.
