Three Indianapolis men arrested after multi-county chase on I-65

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – Three Indianapolis men have been arrested on multiple charges after leading police on a chase that crossed multiple county lines, according to a press release from the Indiana State Police (ISP).

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday, an ISP trooper attempted to stop a gray 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup for speeding on I-65. The officer drove the truck at 87 mph in a 70 mph zone on southbound I-65 near the 14 mile marker. The vehicle went off the road near the 12 mile mark. When the policeman moved towards the truck, the driver quickly started running away.

The officer gave chase and the Chevrolet took the Sellersburg exit and then quickly re-entered the northbound interstate. The pursuit continued north, often at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. As the pursuit continued, troopers and officers from other agencies joined or assisted in attempting to stop the vehicle using tire deflation sticks. During the pursuit, the driver successfully engaged the stop sticks several times. Officers observed the driver and front-seat passenger throwing an unknown substance out of the truck’s windows as it fled north. The officers also determined that the license plates on the vehicle had been stolen.

The pursuit continued northbound, passing Scott and Jackson counties on I-65. Five miles south of Columbus, Indiana, the driver crossed the median and proceeded northbound on the southbound side before taking the Columbus exit. As the pickup exited the interstate, it became stuck in a car entering the southbound on-ramp. The car suffered minor damage and no injuries. The Silverado then re-entered the interstate on the northbound side and continued fleeing north.

Near the 81 mile marker, officers successfully deployed the stop sticks and the pickup came to a stop near the 82 mile marker. The three occupants of the truck were taken into custody without incident, and officers learned that a Silverado had been reported stolen in Westfield, Indiana in May 2024.

After the pursuit, Indiana State Police arrested the three passengers and transported them to the Clark County Jail without further incident.

The driver of the Silverado, James Thomas Vinson, 35, of Indianapolis, was arrested and tentatively charged with resisting law enforcement (Level 6 Felony), vehicle theft (Level 6 Felony), simple traffic violation (Level 6 Felony), criminal recklessness vehicle (Level 6 Felony), Filing False Information (Class B Misdemeanor), Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor), and multiple warrants out of Marion County.

The other two residents, Cedrick Anthony Graves, 29, of Indianapolis, and Carl Fulmore, 23, of Indianapolis, were arrested and tentatively charged with possession of marijuana.
