Sarah Jessica Parker is opening up about the return of two fan-favorite ‘Sex and the City’ characters in season two of ‘And Just Like That…’

The trailer for the upcoming season, released in April, featured John Corbett reprising his role as Aidan Shaw, Carrie Bradshaw’s former flame from Parker, and last month news broke that Kim Cattrall would be reprising her role as Samantha Jones, one of the show’s four main characters. “I thought it was a really cool idea to celebrate our 25th anniversary and have (Samantha) make a surprise appearance. At least the content of it is a secret for now,” Parker teased Diane Sawyer in a new interview with “Good Morning America.”

Cattrall was a main cast member throughout Sex and the City’s six-season run from 1998 to 2004, along with Parker, Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes). She returned for both films, but not for “And Just Like That…” Season 1.

As for Corbett, Parker couldn’t help but smile when talking about Carrie and Aidan’s reunion.

“Two people spending time together after 10 years, with last-life experiences, romantic entanglements, commitments and marriages – and he has children,” she noted. “They had very specific requirements in the past, and Carrie always tried to meet them, but always failed.”

Carrie and Aidan dated during the original Sex and the City series, and he last appeared in the second film, released in 2010.

Aidan’s return comes after the death of Carrie’s husband, John James “Mr. Big” Preston (Chris Noth), during the first season of the revival series.

As it turns out, Carrie’s story about moving on with the loss of a spouse mirrors the journey of Parker’s real-life mother, who last September lost her husband of more than 50 years, Parker’s stepfather, Paul Giffin Forste.

Parker called the loss Mr. Biga “a momentous event that changed the course of her (the character’s) life” and presented Carrie with the challenge of “how to be single again,” as she told her mother – and probably many other women – faced.

“For the first time in her life, she is alone,” she said of her mother, whom she said she asked to live with her and her family, although she claims her mother turned down the offer.

The “Hocus Pocus” actress explained: “One day she finally got up the courage and told me, ‘I’ve never lived alone. I never had to prepare someone’s dinner, think about someone’s meal, do laundry or tinker, point fingers at someone, or argue about what to watch on TV. Thank you, but I really like living alone.

“You can’t be prepared,” Parker added. “The loss is extraordinary. Sadness is unique. Loneliness is special. The independence is unique.”

The premiere of the second season of “And Just Like That…” will take place on June 22 on the Max platform.
