Austin Police officers administered the oath of office to their newest officer on Monday morning in front of a large group of friends and family.

With his badge number 144 assigned, Isaac Jacobs was sworn in as Austin’s 32nd officer, taking over from longtime officer Sgt. Kim Lenz leaves to take a position at the Red Wing Police Department.

Jacobs was sworn in by Administrative Services Director Tom Dankert in the presence of several APD members.

After taking the oath of office, APD Chief David McKichan welcomed Jacobs and gave him some introductory advice.

“Try to remember what it feels like today,” McKichan said.

Jacobs grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School and Riverland Community College after completing a law enforcement program.

APD is still considering laying off four more officers to bring it to its approved strength of 36 officers.
