First Lady Liza Marcos is NOT suspended

A fake YouTube video claims that First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos has been suspended and ordered to leave office, allegedly on the orders of Senate President Chiz Escudero. That’s not true.

There is no such order. The first lady does not hold an official government position, only a courtesy title, so she is not subject to suspension.

The thumbnail of the video uploaded on June 17 included photos of Araneta-Marcos, Escudero and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with text:

TINAPOS PINABABA SA PWESTO. SI LISA SUSPENDED FOOD. CHIZ NAGKUDITA SA CONGRESO IPATALSIK NA (Finished, ordered to resign. Karma, Lisa is suspended. Chiz staged a congressional coup, ordered overthrow).”

Its headline was: “KAPAPASOK LANG:Diosko NA-EXPOSE na! Grabe GINAWA LISA Marcos/ CHIZ ESCUDERO BUMWELTA SAWAKAS! KUDÍTÀ (Just in: Oh God, already exposed! Oh no, Lisa Marcos did something harsh. Chiz Escudero finally responded! Coup d’état).

As first lady, Araneta-Marcos is not a public official and cannot be suspended from her role as the president’s wife. A ceremonial position, the first lady has no official duties but usually assists with humanitarian and charitable work on behalf of the president.

There was also no statement by President Marcos banning his wife from appearing at government events or stripping her of her title as first lady.

The clip surfaced days after Araneta-Marcos was offended when she drank an Escudero wine glass during an Independence Day party in Malacañang on June 12. Some Internet users criticized her for her behavior.

The erroneous video contained no evidence to support this claim and only showed former presidential spokesman Harry Roque criticizing the first lady.

Uploaded by YouTube channel BANAT KAPANIG Television, the video attracted 37,105 interactions. Facebook users also posted the link.
