A man and woman arrested after an attempted theft from Walmart led to a chase and crash in Wake Forest

A man and a woman were arrested Sunday after authorities say they tried to rob a Walmart store in Wake Forest, leading authorities to a chase that ended in a crash.

According to Wake Forest, authorities responded to a report of an attempted theft at the Walmart on South Main Street around 3:41 p.m.

Authorities said they then encountered the suspects at a bus stop and they drove away “in a careless and reckless manner.”

Authorities pursued the suspects until the suspects crashed on NC Highway 98, west of Camp Kanata Road.

The emergency medical team took the suspects to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the pursuit or accident.

Arrested were Phillip Wayne Brewer, 59, of Durham, and Avia Leshawn Inges, 29, of Durham.

Brewer is charged with the following crimes:

  • Fleeing/evading arrest using a motor vehicle in connection with a crime
  • Conspiracy offense – theft
  • Failure to appear in court – two counts of out-of-county probation violation

Inges is accused of the following crimes:

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor theft
  • Failure to appear in court – assistance and participation in theft

Brewer and Inges are scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 1:30 p.m
