A coroner has identified a man shot by a Fort Wayne police officer during a traffic stop

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County coroner has released the name of the man who was shot and killed Saturday by a Fort Wayne police officer.

The coroner identified the man as 22-year-old Linzell Parhm of Fort Wayne.

According to FWPD, around 10:30 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Hurd and John streets on the city’s southeast side.

“The actions of the passengers inside the vehicle caused the officer to discharge his weapon,” FWPD said in a news release. It is unclear how many people were in the car.

A short time later, Parhm was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The coroner ruled his death a shooting homicide and determined that Parhm died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Video of the shooting that went viral on Facebook shows an officer in front of a red car at an intersection repeatedly telling someone inside to “put your hands up.”

The officer can then be heard saying, “Don’t reach for the (expletive), don’t (expletive) dare.”

And then the officer can be seen firing his gun twice at the person in the car.

Per FWPD policy, the officer was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

WANE 15 submitted a formal public request for footage of the shooting to FWPD and city officials.

The city’s director of public information issued a statement Monday saying officials were determining when would be the most appropriate time to release the footage “to ensure openness with the public.”
