SLED accuses former Sumter officer of misconduct in office

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) filed charges against a former Sumter police officer on Tuesday, according to SLED.

Darren Lee McCain, 30, is accused of contacting multiple women and soliciting sex in exchange for money while working as a police officer with the Sumter Police Department.

Law enforcement says the case hinges on McCain’s testimony and evidence found on his phone.

On Tuesday, June 25, he was charged with misconduct in the line of duty and booked into the Sumter County Detention Center.
