MERRILL, WI (WTAQ-WRN) – The counselor who was killed in the Lincoln Hills School attack has been identified.

Corey Proulx, 49, was declared brain dead on Tuesday evening after he was attacked by a 16-year-old boy who had just returned to his dorm after spending some time outdoors.

Investigators say the incident, which was captured on security cameras, may have been planned by the suspect who believed some employees were treating him unfairly.

A Department of Corrections news release said Proulx was a “dedicated and compassionate” team member at Lincoln Hills who leaves behind a fiancée and a daughter.

The suspect has not been identified but could face murder charges in adult court; showed up on Wednesday afternoon.

Lincoln Hills is scheduled to close within the next two years and be replaced by a new facility near Milwaukee
