Earlier this week, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) released body-worn camera video of an officer-involved incident that occurred in February. The video shows the suspect turning towards the officer with a semi-automatic pistol before the officer shot him.

On February 8, 2024, at approximately 10:47 a.m., officers responded to a call for service from an armed man. The area was actively monitored by surveillance cameras used by CMPD’s Real-Time Crime Center as part of the department’s crime reduction initiatives.

RTCC staff “observed on video the man removing a gun that was hidden in the waistband of his clothing, manipulating it, and then concealing it again under his clothing. “RTCC notified officers of an armed facility prior to their arrival on scene,” CMPD said in a news release.

Officers who arrived on scene exited their patrol vehicles and observed what appeared to be a drug transaction between an armed man, 33-year-old Timothy Deangelo Moore, and another person in the parking lot, police said.

CMPD says officers gave Moore multiple verbal commands to show his hands. The BWC video shows a short foot chase. During the chase, the video shows Moore pulling a gun from his waistband and turning towards the officer. The officer shot Moore.

The officer then provided assistance.

The Charlotte Fire Department and a medical examiner responded to the scene. MEDIC transported Moore to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured in this incident.

Moore recovered and was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting a public officer and carrying a concealed weapon.

CMPD says Moore has since been released from the Mecklenburg County Jail.
