Kanye West has reached a settlement over the use of a Donna Summer song on “Vultures 1” without permission

Donna Summer’s estate has reached a settlement with Kanye West, also known as Ye, over an alleged copyright dispute over Summer’s 1977 song “I Feel Love,” which was featured on his 2024 album. Vultures 1.

Summer’s widower and executor Bruce Sudano filed a lawsuit in February accusing West and Ty Dolla $ign, an associate Vultures 1, have not been authorized to use her work. The track containing this song has already been removed from the album on streaming services.

Sudano said West “shamelessly used instantly recognizable parts” of the song, even though he was “expressly denied” permission to do so on February 3.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, added that Summers’ estate denied permission because it “did not want any connection to West’s controversial history.”

“Faced with this denial, defendants arrogantly and unilaterally decided to simply steal “I Feel Love” and use it without permission,” the complaint reads.

On June 20, lawyers for Ye and Summer’s estate said they had “reached a settlement that constitutes a full and final settlement of all claims covered by the lawsuit.”

Both parties will bear their own legal costs.

“We didn’t license the song,” he said.

Summer, called the Queen of Disco, died in 2012 of lung cancer at the age of 63.

“The Summer Estate not only considered the enormous commercial value of the composition ‘I Feel Love,’ but also the potential degradation of Summer’s legacy,” the lawsuit said.

“West is known as a controversial public figure whose behavior has caused many brands and business partners to distance themselves from him.”
