Why is Enzo Fernandez suspended for the FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez will miss the FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester after being suspended.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side take on Leicester at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with a place at Wembley at stake.

Fernandez, however, is sent off for this match after receiving a yellow card late in the match against Leeds in the last round.

The signing of the £106m deal was bookended as a show of defiance as he expressed his frustration at the lack of decision.

Fernandez was the victim of a free-kick for Leeds, but play continued and Dan James eventually fired his shot over the bar.

In the FA Cup, players who pick up two yellow cards in the competition are suspended for the next match, and Fernandez has already reached that threshold.

The midfielder also received a yellow card in the previous round when Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0 in the replay. It was also an unnecessary yellow card, after which Fernandez was booked for taking off his shirt after a brilliant free-kick.

With the Blues no longer having first-team players due to injury, Pochettino will be frustrated by the loss of a key midfield player.
