Rosario Dawson Had to Turn Down ‘Star Trek’ Misfit for ‘Ahsoka’ Role – TrekMovie.com

Actress Rosario Dawson is high on the list of stars wanted to appear on Star Trek. It looks like she almost got her wish, but a franchise from a galaxy far, far away got in the way.

No changeling for Dawson

Rosario Dawson has been a lifelong Trekkie – TrekMovie first announced her interest in starring in Star Trek in 2007. It looks like she almost got her wish, but was interrupted by Ahsoka Tano’s portrayal in the Star Wars franchise. According to a report in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the actress recently showed up at the FAN EXPO in Boston and immediately thought of Trek, opening her panel with a Vulcan salute and telling the audience, “Live long and prosper.” She revealed this while filming the Disney+ series Ahsoka, she took a photo of herself in a Star Wars costume, drinking a bottle of Earl Gray tea, and told the audience: “I’m definitely a new generation girl. Captain Picard all the way. However, she also revealed that the same show kept her from crossing franchises.

From Telegram’s report:

Breaking down as she tells the audience that you can “cross-broadcast” when it comes to “Star Trek” and “Star Wars,” Dawson said she had been asked to do something in the “Star Trek” universe, but had just signed on to do “Ahsoka,” and she wouldn’t be able to do it.

“I could have been one of Odo’s species, a changeling. I could be an immortal puddle. Do you understand my pain? (she said, closing her eyes tightly). That would be really cool,” she insisted. “I really pushed to become a Q.” My dad. That was my dad (putting on a man’s voice and pointing to his dad in the audience), “Be Q.” I’m here, I’m trying. Normal? Then I can be, you know, annoying… cause chaos, which I love.”

It is not entirely clear which Star Trek production Dawson is referring to. After playing the role of Ahsoka Tano in The MandalorianDawson signed on to star in her own Star Wars spin-off in late 2020. In early 2020, Dawson said she felt she was capable of “crossing the streams” and was hoping to take part in Picard Or Discovery.

At the end of 2020, many Star Trek TV productions were underway or about to begin their first season Strange new worldssecond season Picardand the fourth season Discovery, which included a non-speaking Changeling role in one episode. Although it was a small role, the actress had previously said that she would be willing to take on even a supporting role to get on Star Trek. Third season Picard (which went into production in late 2021) actually featured a Changeling storyline with Amanda Plummer playing the season’s main villain, Vadic; however, TrekMovie confirmed that Dawson was not offered a role in season three Picard.

Ahsoka is set to get a second season, so it doesn’t look like Dawson will be able to jump franchises in the short term. But hopefully, in the future, she’ll follow in the footsteps of fellow Trekkie Paul Giamatti, who was recently announced as part of the cast of the first season of the upcoming Paramount+ series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
