Billy Ray Cyrus has accused his estranged wife Firerose of physical, verbal and emotional abuse.

The allegations come about a week after Firerose accused the country singer of similar mistreatment during their acrimonious divorce proceedings.

On Monday, Cyrus, 62, filed new court documents in Tennessee.

The A sore, broken heart the singer “strongly” denied Firerose’s allegations that Cyrus subjected her to “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse” during their nearly seven-month marriage.

According to People magazine, which obtained the court documents, Cyrus called Firerose’s claims “astonishing.”

On May 23, he filed for divorce from Firerose, 36, citing irreconcilable differences and marital misconduct.

Firerose denied any wrongdoing.

In her counter-complaint filed earlier this month, Firerose (real name Johanna Rose Hodges) alleged that Cyrus is “unpredictable and unstable” and has substance abuse issues. She said she felt unsafe living with Cyrus and accused him of constant “verbal attacks.”

Cyrus’ lawyers wrote that the singer “certainly was loud, frustrated and angry” with Firerose in the month before filing for divorce, but was never violent.

“In fact, the reason was used,” Cyrus’ lawyers replied. “Not only verbal and emotional abuse from the defendant, but also PHYSICAL abuse by the defendant.”

Cyrus’ music manager, Scott Adkins, made a statement alleging that he witnessed Firerose’s abuse of Cyrus.

According to ET News, Adkins said he saw Firerose “speaking disrespectfully” and acting “out of control towards Mr. Cyrus” in March, when Cyrus apparently received an invitation to perform Old Town Road with Nicki Minaj at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

Adkins said Firerose, who is also a country singer, became “defensive” of the opportunity offered to Cyrus and “interjected herself” into the situation. Adkins said Cyrus told him Firerose was “hitting” him, but asked his manager not to call the police.

An unnamed Firerose representative called the allegations of abuse against her “false” and said the affidavit should not be trusted because Adkins is on Cyrus’ “payroll” and is therefore unreliable.

Cyrus also denied several of Firerose’s other allegations in her counter-complaint, namely that he asked for a divorce because she required a preventive double mastectomy. Firerose told the court that in 2020 she was diagnosed with a BRCA1 gene mutation that increases the risk of breast cancer.

Cyrus said Firerose had known about the diagnosis for years but didn’t tell him until after they were married. He claimed Firerose threatened to ruin his career by telling the public she wanted to divorce her just days before his scheduled mastectomy.

A Firerose spokesperson called Cyrus’ response to her double mastectomy a “cruel manipulation” of facts and slammed his “daring to question BRCA-positive women’s decisions to undergo preventive surgery.”

Cyrus’ attorneys demanded “concrete evidence” to support Firerose’s accusations of abuse against him.

A representative for Firerose said that “Cyrus’s story is constantly evolving and the filing is simply another overreaching tactic designed to divert attention from the serious, true allegations made against him, supported by a wealth of evidence.”

“Billy Ray doesn’t realize that people who have suffered emotional and psychological abuse for decades are starting to notice. The truth will come out,” the statement concluded.

Since filing for divorce on May 22, Cyrus has accused Firerose of making 37 unauthorized charges to his credit cards totaling approximately $97,000 (approximately $133,000 Canadian).

He also accused Firerose of trying to “isolate” him from at least one of his daughters, although he did not specify which child.

Cyrus asked the court for a temporary restraining order against Firerose.

The couple got married in October 2023.

Cyrus wants to annul the marriage, citing fraud, the details of which are unknown.

He was previously married to Tish Cyrus, although the couple divorced in April 2022 after 28 years of marriage. Together they have five children: daughters Miley, Noah and Brandi, and sons Trace (who, like Brandi, was adopted by Cyrus) and Braison.

Cyrus has another child with his ex-girlfriend Kristen Luckey and son Christopher Cody. He was previously married to Cindy Smith from 1986 to 1991, making Firerose his third wife.
