Max Verstappen shuts down Toto Wolff’s latest interest in Mercedes F1 switch

Max Verstappen believes he has made it clear he will remain at Red Bull for the 2025 F1 season despite continued public interest from Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.

After the Spanish Grand Prix, Wolff was asked about the possibility of signing Verstappen to replace Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season.

Everything indicates that Mercedes will choose Kimi Antonelli’s Andrea, but Wolff is in no hurry to make a decision.

He said in Barcelona: “No, no decision has been made regarding the driver.

“I said we want to keep this decision as long as possible because who knows what will happen.”

Horner replied to Wolff, making it clear that Verstappen was going nowhere: “I know clearly where Max will be next year. He’s here, but is Toto still talking about him?”

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, Verstappen was asked about the comments made by Horner and Wolff and whether he would categorically rule out a move to Mercedes.

“I think I’ve said this before,” he said. “Naturally, people talk. The most important thing is that we have a very competitive car for the future. It’s very tight at the moment, but we are working very well as a team to try and improve even more.

“I’ve already said it with the team. We are working and focusing on next year to try to be competitive again.”

Red Bull is not as dominant as last year, and McLaren has probably been the fastest in recent rounds.

However, even as Red Bull’s lead was shrinking, Verstappen ruled out making a sudden change for that reason alone.

“I don’t think that’s how Formula 1 works, where you can suddenly say ‘bye, guys.’ It doesn’t work like that,” he added. “I have a long contract with the team. I am very happy with where I am.

“As I said earlier, we are already focusing on next year and the things we can implement in the car. I think that should say enough about where I will go next year.”
