Aaron Judge is back on historic pace with a ridiculous tear

Aaron Judge recaps his first 80 games in 2022: 30 home runs.

He’s doing it again.

The Yankees captain hit what has almost become his daily home run, a two-run shot that constituted the entirety of his club’s offense in Wednesday’s 12-2 loss to the Mets at Citi Field.

The umpire’s incredible teardown in what would become another incredible (and perhaps historic) season continued in the sixth inning when he reversed a Danny Young sweeper that launched his bat at 180.3 km/h, launching a rocket over the wall left field.

He also had a single on a night in which he finished with a 2-2 record and a walk before he was replaced by Trent Grisham and the game turned into a loss.

The umpire didn’t seem thrilled that Aaron Boone knocked him out in the eighth inning of a game the Yankees were trailing 11-2, but he later downplayed the decision.

“I want every at-bat. This game never ends,” the referee said. – I want every attack, but the manager makes the decision. I wasn’t nervous at all.”

The American League leader in home runs, RBI (77), OPS (1.145) and most categories you can imagine, has hit five homers in his last eight games and nine in his last 15.

The last one in his career was 287th, which gave Bernie Williams seventh place on the all-time franchise list.

By finishing 30th on the season, he became the fourth player in MLB history to reach 30 points three times before the All-Star break.

His company: Mark McGwire (who did it four times), Ken Griffey Jr. and Babe Ruth.

Even other superstars are left behind as Judge enters his own stratosphere.

Shohei Ohtani loses 100 points with a 1.045 OPS.

“It’s hard to fathom right now what level he’s playing at,” Boone said before the game. “Especially at this point in the game when it’s really hard to hit. We probably have a league-average OPS around .700 right now, with him (100) points higher than Ohtani, and this is all after a rough April.

“It’s just impressive.”
