A teenage boy is dead and another seriously injured in an electric scooter horror incident in Waterford

A teenager has died and another teenager was seriously injured when a bus collided with an electric scooter in Co Waterford.

The collision occurred at 1:10 a.m. on Thursday (June 27) on the R680 Cork road in Waterford.

One person traveling on an electric scooter, a teenager in his late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another teenager in his late teens, who was riding an electric scooter, was taken to University Hospital in Waterford with serious injuries.

The bus driver and the only bus passenger were unharmed.

The Cork Road from Southeastern Technological University (SETU) to the Ring Road is currently closed and is undergoing technical investigation by forensic collision investigators. Local detours have been introduced.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have footage from cameras (including dash cams) and were traveling on Cork Road in Waterford between 12.45am and 1.15am are asked to share this footage with police.
