Oakland firefighter, 25, drowns in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA – A 25-year-old firefighter from Oakland drowned early Thursday morning in San Diego.

San Diego Fire Chief Mitchell said he died around 2 a.m. on the north side of Pacific Pier, south of La Jolla.

Mitchell said he and a friend were swimming in the water and that alcohol may have been involved in the incident.

The video shows yellow tape and police and fire vehicles lined up on the sand.

A woman and a man were also seen embracing each other in a grim embrace.

Mitchell said the young man was in town for the California Summer Firefighting Games.

The games were scheduled to end on Thursday.
