A new theory from the “boys” about the secret powers of the butcher and another imaginary character

The Boys have been putting Butcher through his paces over the years, but now he’s apparently terminally ill, and things are really going off the rails for him. Now, a new theory suggests there might even be more is happening as we thought.

At first, this manifested itself as the idea that taking too much Temp V would give Butcher a brain tumor that would kill him, and this season he began frequently hallucinating his dead wife. Not great.

But now things are getting stranger. We constantly see some sort of parasitic worm working its way through his body at certain points, which I have to believe has something to do with the tentacles that sprouted from the rabbit in the previous episode, after this rabbit was given an infusion of Temp V. That doesn’t seem like a big step from the worm created by Temp V to the tentacle thing.

The broadest theory, however, is that Butcher has a second imaginary friend, whom he doesn’t to realize is a hallucination. It would be the Kessler of the CIA.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Kessler was just introduced this season, and he’s been recruiting Butcher for clandestine missions since he goes in and out with his normal team of boys. However, if you paid attention, the only The only person Kessler has ever interacted with is Butcher. There’s even a scene where they’re both talking to Sameer and he looks at Butcher like he’s crazy and talking to someone who isn’t there.

There have been moments where Kessler gives something to Butcher, something physical, but since we’ve also seen his deceased wife do things like reach out to him and help him up, it’s not out of from the realm of possibilities. Butcher just acquired this thing himself and plays both parts, Jack/Tyler Durden style.

It’s certainly possible that Butcher worked with Kessler in the past, but maybe he’s dead too and Butcher blocked that. But this idea can also explain Butcher’s secret explosion powers, that Kessler could perhaps “take over” and that he is a new side to Butcher’s personality that retained some level of power V. C This is where things can get a little confusing, but I can absolutely accept the idea that he’s not real. And it seems likely that all of these symptoms are caused by this worm that’s in Butcher’s body. It’s weird, because an invasive, brain-warping, empowering worm really isn’t like anything we’ve ever encountered, but I definitely want to know how this all plays out.
