Boys on stolen bike seriously injured in accident

Two teenagers were taken to hospital with serious injuries after the stolen motorbike they were riding hit several other vehicles.

Sussex Police said officers from a “marked police unit” spotted the motorcycle in the St Leonards area just after 1.30pm UK time.

They added that the motorcycle “immediately” took off at high speed before colliding with several other vehicles on London Road.

A police spokesman said the incident had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Police said the driver and passenger of the motorcycle, local boys aged 15 and 17, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Part of London Road was closed while officers arrived at the scene. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes.

All witnesses or people with recordings from a mobile phone, car camera or surveillance are asked to contact the police.
