The family was crossing Allard Road east in the marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when the boy was hit by the truck as he turned left onto Allard Boulevard, police said.

Emergency medical services responded, but the boy died at the scene.

The 39-year-old mother and her seven-year-old daughter were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“It’s devastating,” Edmonton Police Service Chief Dale McFee told reporters Friday morning.

“First of all, our condolences and thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I can’t even imagine what they are going through.

“Words cannot express what this represents… We just think of the magnitude of the damage, whether it is for the police officers, the first responders or the witnesses who intervene. Many of them also have young children. My thoughts are exclusively with the family. »
