Midway through the fourth day of deliberations, the jury in the Karen Read murder trial reported that they had failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

“Dear Judge Cannone, I am writing to inform you on behalf of the jury that despite our exhaustive review of the evidence and careful consideration of all disputed evidence, we were unable to reach a unanimous verdict,” the jury foreman’s note Read.

Prosecutor Adam Lally insisted that deliberations continue, arguing that “simply not enough time has passed.”

However, attorney David Yannetti did not object.

“We think there was enough time,” he said.

Any verdict or acquittal must be unanimous among all 12 jurors. If the jury is hung, Cannone could declare a mistrial and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office could choose to retry the case.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
