Anurag Kashyap Recalls His Night in Jail: ‘I Punched the Wrong Person, She Changed My Life’

Anurag Kashyap, who is actively promoting his latest series Bad Cop, recently recalled an anecdote from the time he spent a night in jail. The serial director-turned-actor had said in an interview that he had to spend a night in police custody for “punching the wrong person”.

In a conversation with Samay Raina on his YouTube channel, the filmmaker-turned-actor said, “Yes, I ended up in jail. I hit the wrong person. Someone who shouldn’t be hit. I was in jail for a night. The guy who put me there is the same guy who changed my life completely. He was the one who got me out of there.” Anurag said that the guy who made him spend a night in jail was under the impression that Anurag stood for the right thing.

Although the director did not share details of the incident, it came as a shock to both his co-star Gulshan Devaiah and the interviewer.

Last year, while promoting his film Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, the filmmaker recalled the time he was arrested in Saudi Arabia for drunkenness in an episode of Unfiltered with Samdish.

He said: “There were no flights from Denmark because of the volcanic ash. I was very exhausted, I drank some wine, went, took a ticket and had to wait for five hours. I went to the lounge and started drinking because I wanted to pass out. I was sitting on the plane and I passed out. I landed in Saudi, they arrested me because I was walking around Saudi completely drunk. They started interrogating me.”

Apart from Bad Cop, Anurag Kashyap was also seen in the Tamil film Maharaj starring Vijay Sethupathi.
