Court records show Shaneka Smith was arrested in Harris County late Tuesday evening. She was later released on $100 bail.

KP George said in a statement that he was aware of the arrest and continues to put the safety and trust of the community first.

“My office is aware of the situation regarding the arrest of Shaneka Smith, my Chief of Staff, on a DWI charge,” he said in a statement. “I take this situation very seriously.

“The safety and trust of our community are our highest priorities, and we will continue to uphold the standards of integrity and accountability that our citizens expect from us. Further updates will be provided as they become available.”

First ABC13 reported that the employee had been arrested, although his name was not released. The Fort Bend Independent later identified staff member as Smith.

George’s former chief of staff, Taral Patel, was also arrested earlier this month. He was charged with online impersonation and falsely representing his identity.
