Upward Bound celebrates student success

Amanda Alanis recognizes the extraordinary writing talent of the students she teaches in Adams State’s Upward Bound summer program. During the summer session, she works with students to refine and refine their writing skills, and in the process leave them with a new level of confidence for the next school year.

“The reason I keep coming back is because I get to see different writers and their skills from all over the Valley,” Alanis said this week. “The content is very challenging. It’s about being an analytical critic, analyzing the text and seeing where they started and where they ended.”

The Upward Bound program celebrated the successes of its students at an awards ceremony in Richardson Hall. A total of 22 awards were presented to students. Additionally, two staff members, Marisol Cristobal-Lucas and Coleen Christensen, were nominated for the Upward Bound Hall of Fame.
