Suspended Assin Central NDC PC breaks silence

Nurein Shiabu Migyimah spoke to Blessed Sogah of Joy News a year ago, ahead of the NDC parliamentary primaries.

A suspended National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the Assin Central constituency in the Central Region is denying allegations of immoral conduct and anti-party behaviour that led to the withdrawal of his candidacy and suspension for six months.

The NDC Central Regional Secretariat has withdrawn Nurein Shiabu Migyimah from the party’s candidacy for the Assin central parliament in the December general elections on moral grounds.

Complaints were filed against him and the NDC Central Regional Executive Committee, after thorough investigations and deliberations, decided to withdraw his candidacy immediately.

The Regional Functional Executive Committee has written to the Assin NDC Central Chairman informing him of the suspension of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah for six months.

This suspension is suspended until the matter is reviewed and resolved by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

However, in an interview with Blessed Sogah of Joy News, the struggling parliamentary candidate said he would be vindicated.

“I believe and know that whatever accusations, whatever they said or anything else, after going through the appropriate party structures, I will be acquitted. If God is so good, God willing, ‘Inshallah’, I will win the elections on December 7,” he said.

Mr. Migyimah also appealed to his supporters to remain calm while he sought to resolve the matter through the established structures of the NDC.

Although the Central Regional State says it served the letter as an official notice of suspension, which will remain in force until the commission makes a final decision on the matter, Shiabu said he has not yet officially received the document explaining the details of the offense to him.

He maintained that he had not committed “immoral acts and anti-party behavior,” as alleged by the party’s Central Regional Wing.

The party did not explain in detail the parliamentary candidate’s crime, except to say it had been reflecting on his “immoral acts and anti-party conduct.”

The Assin Central seat is currently occupied by Kennedy Agyapong of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In the last election, Nurudeen polled 14,747 votes, representing 42.74, compared to Kennedy Agyapong’s 19,754 votes, representing 57.26% of the votes cast.

It is unclear how this decision will affect the district’s dynamics in the December elections.
