PLYMOUTH – Chief Neil Foley is pleased to announce that Plymouth Firefighter Rebecca McCombs graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA) on Friday, June 28.

Firefighter McCombs is one of 19 graduates representing nine fire departments who took part in the Academy’s BW30 class as part of a career training program that recruits firefighters. The graduates completed a 50-day fire service career recruit training program on the Bridgewater campus.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Chief Foley, other chiefs and members of local fire departments, as well as the recruit’s family and friends.

“On behalf of the Plymouth Fire Department, I would like to congratulate Rebecca on this extraordinary step forward in her career,” said Chief Foley. “We look forward to welcoming Rebecca to the department and have confidence in her ability to serve the Plymouth community.”

The program teaches the basics of fire and other conditions, life safety, search and rescue, ladder operation, water supply, pump operation and fire attack. Graduates currently have qualifications for the rank of Firefighter I and II and in the field of handling hazardous materials.

“Massachusetts Firefighting Academy instructors draw from decades of fire service experience to train new recruits. Through consistent classroom learning and hands-on practice, today’s graduates have developed the tools they will need to work seamlessly with experienced firefighters in their home departments and in neighboring communities as mutual aid,” Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Director Eric Littmann said in a statement.

The remaining 18 graduates of the #BW30 class represent fire departments from Avon, Brewster, Bridgewater, Canton, Eastham, Hanson, Hull, Hyannis, Provincetown, Randolph, Scituate, Seekonk, Walpole, Whitman and Yarmouth.
