Host families needed for exchange students!

Chapel Hill, TN – Have you considered accepting a foreign exchange student? Judith Broadbent told WGNS: “Exchange students are looking forward to their academic/cultural exchange year (starting in August). The only thing missing is a host family.”

He lives in nearby Chapel Hill, Tennessee, and is the regional coordinator for Cultural Homestay International.

This midstate educator explained, “We have students who are interested in all kinds of activities and would like to be here on exchange. The students come from Europe and Brazil. They have their own health insurance and a monthly allowance for expenses. They are high school students, mostly third graders, and they are the best students in the country.”

Host families provide room and board, so students become part of their family.

One of many exchange students who hope to study in America is an 18-year-old twelfth-grade student from Belgium named Thalia. She loves reading, playing sports and is a pianist.

A letter from Thalia

Her introductory letter includes: “I’m Thalia! First, I would like to introduce myself and my family. People often tell me that I’m an energetic person. I’m a bit clumsy because of this, but my dynamic side is my main advantage for many reasons. To feel good, I do a lot of sports, so I can let off steam and not have to think about anything else. I’m often busy because I don’t like doing nothing. So I started playing the piano 7 years ago. I discovered what it’s like to create music, not just listen to it, and now I can’t take my hands off it. I also managed to overcome my fear of the public and thanks to music I feel more at ease in everyday life. I’m also ambitious and like to get everything done, so I work a lot for school. It’s always nice to get a good grade! I’m an empathetic person and I can also listen to others. I can easily put myself in the other person’s shoes. I’m always there for others. I want to discover everything around me and everything interests me. Despite this side of my personality, I also have a zest for life. I like to smile and laugh a lot; it cheers me up. I love the world around me and my biggest dream is to get to know our entire planet. I have a passion for adventure and I am not afraid of the unknown. That is why I can’t wait to discover your culture and most of all, get to know you! My parents sometimes say that I am too dreamy, but I like it and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Host families are needed

Broadbent emphasizes that local families will play a role United States ambassadors and share my home and Middle Tennessee culture with an exchange student.

Host families are needed now for exchange students for the academic year 2024-2025, which starts in August. All of these students have a high level of English and are waiting for a host family.
