Fort Bend County Judge KP George’s chief of staff was arrested on DWI charges.

Court records show Shaneka Smith was arrested in Harris County late Tuesday evening. She was later released on $100 bail.

KP George said in a statement that he was aware of the arrest and continues to prioritize the safety and trust of the community.

“My office is aware of the arrest of Shaneka Smith, my chief of staff, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said in a statement. “I take this situation very seriously.

“The safety and trust of our community are our highest priorities, and we will continue to maintain the standards of integrity and accountability that our citizens expect of us. Further updates will be provided as they become available.”

First ABC13 reported that an employee had been arrested, although the employee’s name was not released. The Fort Bend Independent later identified staff member as Smith.

George’s former chief of staff, Taral Patel, was also arrested earlier this month. He was charged with online impersonation and falsely representing his identity.
