Driver arrested after crashing into Deerfield home, causing fire

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A driver was arrested in Deerfield after he crashed into a home Saturday, causing a fire.

According to the Deerfield Police Department, at 12:58 a.m. Saturday, crews responded to reports of explosions in the area of ​​Sunrise Ave, River Road and Juniper Drive. Officers then found a home on River Road on fire that had been hit by a large SUV that was also on fire.


The driver of the SUV suffered a minor leg injury but refused treatment. The driver was arrested for OUI 3rd offense and will appear in Greenfield District Court on Monday.

There were no occupants or pets in the home at the time of the fire and crash. River Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Assisting in the incident were the Deerfield, Greenfield, Sunderland, Whately, Turners Falls, Northampton and Conway fire departments, as well as the Massachusetts State Police and Shelburne Control.
